CONDUCT OF A NATIONAL MEASLES-RUBELLA (MR) SUPPLEMENTAL IMMUNIZATION ACTIVITY (SIA)
WHEREAS, the Department of Health Memorandum of No. 2011-2008 dated January 6, 2011 states that the Philippines has committed to eliminate measles by 2012, the target year as agreed upon by the member countries of the Western Pacific Region. Three successful nationwide campaigns were conducted however the annual routine measles coverage was sub-optimal with pockets of low coverage distributed all over the country. This was the main outbreaks were reported in the quarter of 2003 up to Q2 2010.
WHEREAS, as a response to interrupt the transmission of the measles virus and prevent a potential large measles outbreak to occur, there is an urgent need to conduct a Measles Supplemental Immunization Activity this coming April 2011. All children ages 9 to 95 months old nationwide should be given a dose of Measles-Rubella vaccine through a door-to-door vaccination campaign.
WHEREAS, a Measles-Free certification will be issued to barangays/municipality, city/province meeting all the criteria of (1) all barangays passed the RCA with no missed child and 95% and above house marking accuracy, (2) there are no measles cases for the next 3 months after the campaign and (3) measles surveillance indicators have met the national standards.
NOW THEREFORE, I, PHILIPP G. PERALTA, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby approve the conduct of a Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity in this municipality.
FURTHER, all Barangay Captains are directed to cooperate in this activity and ensure of all health personnel visiting their communities from April 4 to May 6, 2011.
